Instrument oral exam prep · Online
Walk into your instrument oral already knowing the answers.
One-on-one mock orals with a flight instructor, run the way an examiner runs them. Find your weak spots before the checkride does.
Also preparing Private and Commercial applicants.
What the examiner asks
Three questions that trip people up.
One from each checkride, drawn from the topics examiners report applicants miss most. If you hesitate, that is what a mock oral fixes.
Private · Airspace Where does Class E airspace begin? Tap for the answer
It depends on the chart. Usually 1,200 feet AGL. Inside a magenta vignette, 700 feet AGL. Inside a dashed magenta line, at the surface. Where nothing else is designated, 14,500 feet MSL. Examiners want you to point at the sectional and say which applies.
Instrument · 14 CFR 91.185 You lose comms in IMC. What route and altitude? Tap for the answer
Route: assigned, vectored, expected, filed, in that order. Altitude: the highest of the assigned altitude, the MEA, or the altitude ATC told you to expect, for each segment of the route.
Commercial · Privileges A friend offers to pay you to fly him to Dallas, in your personal plane. Can you accept? Tap for the answer
No! You can pimp the plane, or the pilot, but not both. Providing the aircraft and the pilot together for pay needs a Part 119 operating certificate and Part 135 rules. Your commercial certificate alone covers only the narrow exceptions in 14 CFR 119.1(e) and flying for an operator.

Your instructor
Conor Zachar
I'll give you the blueprint for my 100% checkride pass rate: 7 and counting. I teach Private, Instrument and Commercial students every week, so I know which questions examiners keep coming back to and where students freeze.
Aviation is pure adventure. I do this for the love of flying. Let's unlock the checkride together so you can discover this passion as well.
Questions
Before you book.
Is this online?
Yes. Every session is on Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in the U.S. Have your charts, the AIM and your POH handy, just like on checkride day.
Does this replace my instructor?
No. Your own instructor still trains you and signs your checkride endorsement. This is extra practice focused on the oral exam, the part most students feel least prepared for.
Can I log these sessions?
Yes. I'll sign your logbook for the ground training we cover in each paid session.
Which checkrides do you prep for?
Instrument is the specialty. I also prep Private and Commercial applicants for their orals.
What if I need to reschedule?
Reschedule anytime up to 24 hours before your session at no charge.
